Create your own Bean Bag Zone!
It was time to create a little chill-out space in our house that reflected our style and was easy to maintain. I missed out on the “before” photos, but trust me…it wasn’t pretty. A chunky loveseat and chair set, in sage green. They had seen many social events and accommodated lots of rear ends over the years, and they were starting to look a little weary. At one time, in the right room, they were perfect…and now it was time to say goodbye. So I didn’t get the “before” photos, but I do have some “during” and “after” photos. Here we go:
I began by clearing out the seats and donating them to the ARC. It was a bittersweet moment of sorts. Once they were gone, this is what I had to work with.
Nice! My package from BeanBagZone.com has arrived. A cardboard treasure chest filled with the ingredients for
a Zak Cocoon, a.k.a. The Napper. You wonder how they get all that bean bag in the
box and then you open it up and it all makes sense. The foam comes in vacuum packed capsules, and the cover and liner come separately with a little piece of green
paper and the instructions on how to work the bean bag magic.
Step 1. Unzip the liner
Step 2. Place the foam capsules in the liner
Step 3. Cut open the bags
Step 4. Remove the plastic from the foam
Step 5. Zip up the liner and play with the foam, break it up and spread it out. Be sure to twist off the child-proof zipper pull to prevent children from opening the zipper and getting into the contents!
Step 6. Wash, rinse, repeat…continue messing with the foam until you’ve got most of the big chunks broken into pieces
Step 7. Place the filled liner in the cover
OK, tip here…the foam creates a ton of static. So before you place it into the cover, spray the liner with some sort of fabric-grade static guard.
I also sprayed a bit inside my cover. The spray really stinks after you apply it, but it will fade right away. No static.
Step 8. Toss the blob around every once in a while to continue breaking it all up. Pretty soon, it will be comfortable enough to sit in…say 1
day or less. In about 5 or so days, it’s a full sized bean bag dream.
Step 9. Pair with a couple other bean bag chairs, dust off those plants and there you have it.

With such a large selection on BeanBagZone.com, we thought it was time for a bean bag chair tutorial! So sit back and get into The Zone for today’s lecture: Bean Bags 101.
Some of you ask, how in the world do I choose a bean bag when there are so many choices? Well, we Zonemasters are here to tell you, “Yeah, you’re right…it’s not that easy.” First, you need to decide what sort of space you have available for a bean bag chair in your home, apartment, or club. 
Are you in need of an extra seat for the occasional guest in your small living room, or are you thinking you’ll be hanging out with friends playing video games and watching movies for hours? You see, when it comes to your available space, size does matter. You don’t want a bean bag chair that will take over the living room, and you don’t want one so small that only your 5 year old nephew fits on it. Unless, of course, you’re buying a kids bean bag for your nephew. But that’s a different story.
Once you determine what size works best for you, then you need to think about support. Do you want a traditional bean bag? Something round and filled with beans? Something with a little more structure? Maybe you are considering foam filled bean bags, and you wonder, what is the difference between a Jaxx Sac and a Foof Chair? The styles are similar to the Foofs, but the difference is inside…100% recycled shredded furniture grade urethane foam surrounded by a standard liner. No add-on here. And what makes these bags really handy is the covers are machine washable! Simply zip off the high-quality cover and throw it in the laundry for easy clean-up. The other thing we like about the Jaxx line is their timing. You can’t always plan ahead, and when you are in a hurry for a quality bean bag, these bags will ship in about a week (depending on where you live). So they are a little more expensive at first glance, but you get a little more with these bags so we think it’s a pretty good deal.
We’ve covered Size, Filling, and now let’s talk about Shape. Not every bean bag chair has to be round.
